Tony’s Market opens in Roslindale Square.

Operated by Italian immigrant Tony DeBenedictis, it opened initially in Dedham in 1963 before moving to 4381 Washington Street. The store becomes noted for its meats and Italian imported foods, and its friendly owner, once described by the Boston Globe as “The happiest man in Roslindale.”
